5K Volunteer

VOLUNTEERS are crucial for the success of our 5K!

Please see a list of race day volunteer opportunities below, details may change as we approach our event in May!

Thanks for your interest in volunteering for Girls on the Run! As girls from across our area come together to achieve their goals on 5K day, they will be depending on volunteers like you to help them shine!

Course Marshal:  (8am- 10:30am) Course volunteers must be at least 18 years or older but may be accompanied by children.  Check in at the volunteer table at 8:00am and receive your course assignment.  You must be at your designated spot no later than 8:45am.  Some spots will require you to be in place by 8:30. The 5k will begin at 9:15am and you will direct runners in the right direction through the course while cheering and encouraging them on.  Bring your own noise makers, water etc…  You will be given emergency information in case of an accident on the course, so please bring a cell phone for easy contact.

Equipment Set-Up:  We will need able bodies to help us set up tables and supplies for this event.  Volunteers should arrive at Catawba College at 6:30 am and check in with GOTR Support Team for direction and duties.

Finish Line Refreshments:  (8am-10:30am) Food Volunteers should arrive at 8:00 and check in at the food table.  The tables will already be set up.  At 9am, ONCE THE RACE HAS ALREADY BEGUN, please begin slicing oranges, bananas and bagels and setting up on food tables.  You may use plastic gloves, cutting boards and knives that are available.  All are welcome to the food on the table.  After most participants have left you may begin cleaning up the table, throwing away any trash and boxing up leftover food for donation.

Happy Hair Table: (7:30-9:30am) Check in at the Volunteer Table before heading to the Happy Hair table.  Help set up all hair products for display and use.  Girls will arrive at 7:30am and begin to flock the Happy Hair Table to decorate their hair with colored hair spray and accessories.  Volunteers will help the girls while also keeping the table under control and free of chaos.  Make sure spray is not directed toward anyone’s face and that all girls get a fair chance to use the Happy Hair Station.  Volunteers should be 16 years or older with at least 2 parents/adults.
